After seven straight wins, the Vols are flying high— and the idea is to not come down anytime soon. Especially Friday. That’s when Richardson Berkner invades Choctaw for the first round of the playoffs. Berkner is 6-3. The Vols 8-2.
As of late, the season has been a masterclass in consistency for Coach Sams’ squad. The high-powered offense has outscored opponents by an average of 22 points during their winning stretch, proving they can light up the scoreboard while the defense delivers when it matters most.
That’s what happened in last week’s 24-21 nail-biter over the favored South Grand Prairie Warriors.
Leading the Vols charge is quarterback Jayden Bibbs, whose dual-threat skills have kept defenses guessing all season. Against the Warriors, Bibbs threw for 252 yards and three touchdowns while completing a stunning 76.3 percent of his passes. He also added 63 yards on the ground — including several key scrambles that kept drives alive. His favorite target, Keidric Osunde-Brown, hauled in 113 receiving yards, turning short passes into big plays.
The Volunteers’ defense has been equally impressive. Kyle Smith and Princeton Campbell each snagged interceptions last week, helping Bowie seal the victory in crunch time. Meanwhile, Bryson Castile continued to anchor the front line with 12 tackles, including two for loss, and half a sack.
While Bowie’s focus remains sharp, they know Berkner won’t make it easy. The Rams are coming off a commanding 49-21 win over Pearce, highlighted by a ferocious defense led by Kaiden Carter and a momentum-shifting touchdown return by Mehki Jessie.
Still, Bowie’s confidence is riding high. With Bibbs commanding the huddle, Osunde-Brown stretching the field, and a defense that knows how to close out games, the Vols are primed for whatever Berkner throws their way.
