After seven years at Bowie, four as a principal, Lee Jones is leaving.
Lee addressed teachers and staff in an early morning meeting on May 20 in the Little Theater shortly after taking the same position at Sam Houston.
Why Sam? “The challenge,” is how Lee put it during the meeting.
Lee is credited with raising the academic standards and results at Bowie, and the expectation from AISD is that he’ll do the same at Sam.
Lee, who grew up in Arlington, graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelors in Kinesiology in December of 2008. After teaching for a year, he decided to obtain his Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration.
He graduated again from the University of Texas at Arlington in August of 2011.
“My time here at Bowie has taught me to appreciate the journey and to always remember what’s important to you,” Lee said. “The diversity of this campus, along with the academics and athletics makes this a great place to be.”
But, he said to staff, “I’m just ready for a new challenge.”
