Leadership is the ability of an individual, group, or organization to inspire others toward achieving a common, shared goal. And for Ngoc Nguyen, that goal was to be financially prepared for college. Thankfully the Richard Greene Scholarship helped both her leadership and financial goals.
“I want to be a leader in the future”, Nguyen said.”This is a very good opportunity for me to prove myself and be more involved with my community.”
Each year a student completing their junior year in each of Arlington ISD high schools is selected to receive a $10,000 scholarship to help with college costs. During the recipient’s senior year, he/she rotates through an internship every six weeks at different community service and local government entities including the City of Arlington’s management and political offices.
Nguyen earned her Richard Greene Scholarship by being more involved by participating in certain high school activities, in her freshman year she became the president of the Freshman Class and joined HOSA. In her sophomore year she joined Key Club and got more involved with her church, which ended up making Nguyen the Junior Board director for Key Club and an officer in HOSA.
“I have so many hard working club members,” Nguyen says. “It may sound like a lot of work but my team is always on task to the point where it starts to become easy for me.”
For her senior year her goal is to lock in as senior class president and fundraise for prom, “I like to keep on improving myself”, stated Nguyen. “Not just for college applications but for the long term.
