Surely you’ve noticed the big field next to the MAC being fenced off, and now dirt is being moved around. What is it?
A new practice facility for the softball team.
Right now, the team practices are behind the MAC where Head Coach Courtney Hervey says is simply not large enough to create a complex similar to where the baseball team plays their games. But the larger grassy area on the New York side of the MAC is just large enough to give the Lady Vols the room it needs for both practice and playing home games.
Previously, Bowie teams played their home games at the off-campus Arlington Workman Softball Complex. This facility upgrade will bring Bowie up to the same high standards as other district schools.
Hervey said that the softball complex has been in the works for several years. She and her returning team are “very excited” to have their own field on campus where they can host home games.
“We love playing at Workman, but there is nothing better than playing a home game on your own campus, in front of your family and friends,” Hervey said. “We draw a really good crowd wherever we go, and this will hopefully increase now that we are on campus. Great things are happening in the softball world here at Bowie High School.”
