When my friend shared a band they thought I’d like, it wasn’t out of the ordinary since they’re always introducing me to non-mainstream bands. This time it was different. When I listened I was surprised by how much I liked them and how good they sounded. The instrumental solos and vocals, just combined so well, it was mind-blowing. My friend shared their music hoping I’d want to see them live, which was Nov. 6 at Club Dada in Dallas, which, of course, I was all in.
We got there around 7 p.m. Cheerleader Roadkill wasn’t supposed to play until 8, but they played at about 8:20-8:30. They opened with their song “Rot Away,” which is one of my favorites. Lead guitarist and vocalist Goobsmoch (Noel Kovac) was sort of interacting with the crowd, telling the audience he would like to see some movement and energy from them.
By the time the second song started playing, people started gathering, jumping, and moving their heads to the beat, defining a mosh pit. Roadkill played some new songs which I think they’ll release later. By the time I left, which was right before they finished the show, they still had about one to two songs left. Other songs they performed were “Suburbia, Sewed Shut,” “Hostage,” “Hold On,” “Pedestal,” and, of course, my favorite. “Summer Camp Slut,” which means they played most of their albums and EP’s (extended play). My favorites were probably “Sewed Shut,” “Pedestal,” “Hold On” and “Summer Camp Slut.” I was overjoyed that I got to see them live. It looked like people were enjoying the show. The mosh pit was very energetic and I saw many people filming the show.
The concert was very amusing and pleasurable, although my ears did hurt and were ringing a lot after. Roadkill ended up having a sort of pop up shop with The Jins, who were also performing. They sold T-Shirts, beanies, CD’s and stickers. Standing in line and waiting to get in was totally worth it for the memories I made and the band shirt I bought. Overall, my experience of the show was pleasant and was money well spent.
